The 2018 Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Media Summit will be held from July 1-3, 2018 in Vientiane, the Lao PDR, with the theme “Cooperation in the Mekong-Lancang Community for a bright future”.
The summit is jointly hosted by the People’s Daily of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Information and Culture of the Lao PDR. The Mekong-Lancang countries consist of Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
The head or a senior executive of mainstream media organizations from the six Mekong-Lancang countries will be invited to attend the 2018 Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Media Summit from July 1-3 in Vientiane.
Senior journalists from mainstream media in each of Mekong-Lancang country will attend a New Media Workshop in Beijing and a reporting trip to LuangPrabang and Champassak in Laos from June 24 to July 8, on the sidelines of the Summit.
Representatives of media organisations in the six Mekong-Lancang River countries will be joined by high-ranking Chinese and Lao policymakers, academics and entrepreneurs.
Media convergence and tourism promotion in the MLC framework will be highlighted at the summit. In addition, a series of interactive sessions will examine MLC’s impacts on countries along the Mekong-Lancang River, the mutual benefits of media cooperation, and the development of new media and tourism promotion.
The first Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Media Summit was held on December 20, 2017, in Beijing with the theme “New Era of Media Cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong Community of Shared Future”. The summit comes under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, hosted by the People’s Daily of the People’s Republic of China. As a sideline event of the Mekong-Lancang Media Summit in Beijing, a journalists’ trip was organised for reporters from the six Mekong-Lancang countries.
