Provincial Coordination Meeting for GAMCIL Project in Luang Prabang Province

On December 20-21, 2023, the GAMCIL project held a Provincial Coordination Meeting in Luang Prabang province. In the meeting, there was a discussion about the overview of the specific project in the target province, the introduction of the model of coordination and cooperation so that the project can be implemented effectively. In addition, the meeting also talked about the plan of activities of the project that will be implemented in the next 6 months to ensure that the activities can be implemented on the timeframe.

Provincial Coordination Meeting for GAMCIL Project in Vientiane Capital On December 18, 2023, the GAMCIL project held a Provincial Coordination Meeting in Vientiane Capital. During the meeting, there was a discussion about the overview of the implementation of the project activities, how social media is used in Laos–specifically how journalists and media outlets do not properly leverage social media. The Journalist Association of the Lao PDR will conduct a media analysis to determine the best way to reach the target group and key players on social media channels. This will help the project to find solutions to the challenges and help social media users consume the media widely, especially information about sustainable green development.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Ceremony for the Green Action through Media, Mass Organization and Civil Society in Laos (GAMCIL) On September 14, 2023, there was a Memorandum of Understanding Ceremony for the Green Action through Media, Mass Organization and Civil Society in Laos (GAMCIL) between CARE International in Lao PDR and the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism. The event was attended by Mr. Somsavath Phongsa, Director General of the Mass Media Department, Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism; Ms. Keoamphone Souvannaphoum, Country Director of CARE International in Lao PDR, Mr. Savankhone Razmountry, President of the Lao Journalists Association and former deputy, Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, and the esteemed H.E. Ina Mariulionyt, European Union Ambassador to Lao PDR, and representatives from various governmental departments at the ministerial, provincial, and district levels, including other stakeholders. With funding by the European Union, the project will foster collaboration with the Mass Journalist Media Department within the MICT, which the Lao Journalist Association represents to improve professional skills including the use of digital and new technologies, enabling quality information to be provided to the public through responsible and professional reporting on green development issues and to enhanced knowledge and capacity enabling them to contribute constructively to policy-making, monitoring, and advocacy on ‘green development issues’ impacting communities, including through the use of digital and new technologies.

Discussion Meeting for the Implementation Plan of the GAMCIL Project between the Lao Journalists Association (LJA) and CARE International in Lao PDR On May 10, 2023, the Lao Journalists’ Association held a meeting with CARE International in Lao PDR in Vientiane. With Mr. Savankhone Razmountry, President of the Lao Journalists’ Association and Ms. Keoamphone Souvannaphoum, Country Director of CARE International in Lao PDR, representatives from the Ministries, Departments, and the Management Committee of the project to strengthen the media through the participation of mass organizations and social organizations for the Green Action through Media, Mass Organization and Civil Society in Laos (GAMCIL). During the meeting, there was an introduction regarding the responsibilities of the Lao Journalists’ Association (LJA) and CARE Laos to have a better understanding of the responsibility of each party. In addition, there was also a discussion about the progress of the memorandum of understanding and joint form comments to make the content more detailed.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Consultation Meeting for the GAMCIL project On February 10, 2023, the Lao Journalists’ Association held a meeting to discuss the memorandum of understanding for the Green Action through Media, Mass Organization and Civil Society in Laos (GAMCIL). With Mr. Savankhone Razmountry, President of the Lao Journalists’ Association and Ms. Keoamphone Souvannaphoum, Country Director of CARE International in Lao PDR, Mr. Somsavath Phongsa, irector General of the Mass Media Department, Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, representatives from various governmental departments at the ministerial, provincial, and district levels, including other stakeholders. At the meeting room of Vientiane Newspaper. In the meeting, there was a discussion of the details of the memorandum of understanding including the target areas of the project, budget, roles and responsibilities of the project management committee.

Discussion Meeting for the Implementation Plan of the GAMCIL Project between the Lao Journalists’ Association (LJA) and the European Union in Lao PDR (EU) On April 20, 2022, Mr. Savankhone Razmountry, President of the Lao Journalists’ Association welcomed and met Ms. Ina Marciulionyte, the Ambassador of the European Union to Lao PDR Delegation. The purpose of this meeting is to create cooperation in studying the feasibility of implementing the GAMCIL project with the participation of the Lao media as the Lao Journalists’ Association, the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.
